ONE MONTH BEFORE CLOSING:

Make arrangements for movers and/or a moving truck. (Click here for a helpful website.)

Make sure your loan officer has all the documents they need from you to process your loan efficiently.

Make travel arrangements, hotel, if necessary.

Transfer membership with clubs and civic organizations.

Obtain medical records, prescriptions and ask for referrals if relocating to an area outside your providers area.

Take an inventory of your belongings before they are packed. Take photos or video tape and record serial numbers of electronics.

Make arrangements for transporting your pets.


TWO WEEKS BEFORE CLOSING:

Enter a change of address at the Post Office. (Click here to visit the US Postal Service website.)

Notify all friends, family members, creditors, etc. of your change of address.

Arrange for utilities to be transferred into your name for the day of possession.

If selling at the same time, arrange for utilities to be transferred out of your name on the day the new buyer takes possession. Make sure and leave utility company your forwarding address.

Set up closing appointment at the title company.

Call your loan officer to confirm that you have final loan approval, and to make sure they do not need any other documents from you.

If moving in a condo building reserve the elevator.


DAY BEFORE YOU MOVE :

Do a final walk-thru of the home you are purchasing to ensure it is in the same condition as when you first viewed it, and to verify any required repairs were done to your satisfaction.

If selling at the same time, make sure you leave out your cleaning supplies. You should deliver possession of your home to the new buyers clean and free of any trash or unwanted furniture.

Leave behind all appliance manuals, spare keys and garage door openers.

Get final closing figures from title company. They will expect a cashiers check for any money due at closing.

Call movers or truck rental facility to verify your reservation.

Carry all important documents, currency jewelry and other important items yourself.
